St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - All the momentum was on the side of the St. Paul Saints with one mighty swing of the bat from Jimmy Kerrigan. His tying two-run home run in the eighth inning capped off a three-run comeback, but it wasn't enough as the Saints lost 6-4 in 10 innings to the Indianapolis Indians at CHS Field on Friday night in front of 4,474.
With the Saints down 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth Brent Rooker led off with a single to left. With one out J.T. Riddle doubled him home to cut the deficit to 4-2. Two batters later Kerrigan crushed a two-run homer to right, his second of the season, tying the game at four.
In the 10th, however, the Indians were able to score with two outs. With the runner at second to start the inning, new reliever Rob Whalen retired the first two hitters, but Kevin Kramer then deposited a two-run homer to right, his second of the season, that proved to be the game winner.
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Chris Sharpe started the game with a double over the head of Keon Broxton in center field. With one out, Kramer doubled home Sharpe to make it 1-0. Christian Bethancourt followed with an RBI single.
The Saints responded right away in the bottom of the inning when Nick Gordon led off with a single to left. With one out, Rooker reached on a fielding error by the third baseman Hunter Owen putting runners at first and second. A walk to Ryan Jeffers loaded the bases and Riddle's sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 2-1.
It stayed that way until the sixth when the Indians added to their lead as Bligh Madris reached on a one out infield single to second. Joe Hudson doubled him home making it 3-1.
The Indians made it 4-1 in the eighth without a hit. Two walks and a hit by pitch from new reliever Tom Hackimer loaded the bases with nobody out. Hackimer came back to strike out the next two hitters, but then walked Kramer to force in a run and make it 4-1.
The same two teams meet in game five of the six-game series on Saturday night at CHS Field. The Saints send RHP Jhoan Duran (NR) to the mound against Indians RHP Chase De Jong (1-0, 4.50). The game can be seen on Bally Sports North and heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
