Syracuse Mets News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Mets walked off against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs with a 9-8 Syracuse victory on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Drew Jackson had two home runs, and David Thompson and J.D. Davis both hit solo homers for the Mets in the win.
Syracuse (4-13) entered the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied, 8-8. Sebastian Elizalde worked a walk to lead off the inning. Nick Meyer followed with a single to left field on a hit-and-run where Elizalde was moving towards second base on the pitch and advanced to third base on the play to put runners at first and third. Then, with Davis batting, Lehigh Valley reliever Neftali Feliz threw a pitch that was outside and tipped off IronPigs catcher Edgar Cabral's glove and went to the backstop for a passed ball that allowed Elizalde to score from third to give Syracuse a 9-8 walk-off win.
Lehigh Valley (10-7) scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning. With two outs and a runner on third, Ryan Cordell reached on an error that scored Luke Williams from third base, giving the IronPigs a 1-0 lead.
The Mets tied the game in the second. With one out, Thompson hit an opposite-field home run to right field, knotting the game, 1-1. The homer was Thompson's team-leading fourth of the season.
Syracuse took their first lead in the second. With two outs, Mason Williams doubled. Nick Meyer followed with an RBI single to give Syracuse a 2-1 edge.
The Mets extended their lead in the fourth. Thompson led off with a single. Two batters later, Jackson homered to right field, pushing the Syracuse lead to three, 4-1. Then, Cody Bohanek singled and stole second base. With two outs, Mason Williams singled, bringing home Bohanek to make it a 5-1 game.
The IronPigs brought across a run in the top of the fifth. With one out, Luke Williams tripled. Roman Quinn followed with a single to the outfield to trim the Mets lead to three, 5-2.
Syracuse responded in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Davis hit his first home run with Syracuse, extending Syracuse's lead back to four, 6-2.
The Mets added to their advantage in the sixth with a one-out homer from Jackson, his second home run of the night, giving Syracuse a 7-2 lead. This was the second multi-homer game in Jackson's career and his first in Triple-A.
Lehigh Valley mounted a comeback in the seventh. A two-out RBI double was followed by a wild pitch with a runner at third as two runs scored in the frame to cut Syracuse's lead to three, 7-4.
Then in the top of the eighth, Darrick Hall hit a two-run home run, and Cornelius Randolph had a pinch-hit, two-out solo homer, tying the game up, 7-7.
Syracuse regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Thompson doubled, moved to third on a Ferguson single, and Thompson scored on a Cody Bohanek sacrifice fly out to right field, giving the Mets an 8-7 edge.
The IronPigs tied the game back up though in the top of the ninth with a solo home run from Ryan Cordell to lead off the inning, making it an 8-8 ballgame and setting things up for Syracuse's walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.
The Mets and IronPigs conclude their six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
