Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM - Bulls third baseman Vidal Brujan blasted his team-leading seventh home run of the year and was joined by right fielder Ryan Boldt and left fielder Nathan Lukes in driving in two runs each, while catcher Brett Sullivan's walk-off single in the ninth gave Durham an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Charlotte Knights in front of 5,131 fans on Saturday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Entering the bottom of the ninth trailing by one, LF Josh Lowe led off with a single and then took third on 1B Dalton Kelly's single to left, before scoring on a Knights error to tie the game. After pinch hitter Kevin Padlo was intentionally walked to load the bases, Sullivan socked a single to right to give the Bulls their fourth win in five games over Charlotte.

Boldt began the scoring with a two-run double in the first, while Brujan doubled the lead to four with his two-run blast in the second. Charlotte, however, chipped away at the Bulls' lead, ultimately evening the contest in the sixth before plating a three-spot in the seventh to go ahead 7-4. Lukes' two-run double in the last of the seventh brought Durham within a run to set the stage for the last-inning heroics.

Bulls reliever Yacksel Rios (1.0 IP, 2 K) earned the victory with a scoreless ninth in support of starter Joe Ryan (4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, ER, 0 BB, 8 K). Knights reliever Ryan Burr (0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, BB, K) suffered the defeat.

The two teams are slated to complete their six-game series on Sunday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm ET. RHP Drew Strotman (3-0, 0.56) is expected to get the nod for Durham, while Charlotte LHP Matt Tomshaw (0-1, 7.36) is anticipated to start. Tickets with socially-distanced seating for that game and all remaining Bulls home games in May are available at durhambulls.com.
