CRUNCH PUSH WINNING STREAK TO EIGHT

The Crunch opened a five-game road trip and extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games in Week 19 before losing in regulation Sunday in Providence to end the week. It was the Crunch's first regulation loss since Jan. 16 and the eight-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest in the AHL this season; the Crunch have two of the four-longest win streaks in the league, including their seven-game run in November.

The Crunch opened the road trip Wednesday in Rochester with a come-from-behind, 2-1 shootout win over the Amerks, good for their second-straight win over Rochester. Cory Conacher snagged the only goal in regulation for the Crunch and then he and Alex Volkov netted shootout tallies in the win. Friday, the Crunch blanked the Hartford Wolf Pack, 6-0, behind 21 saves from Eddie Pasquale. The week ended Sunday afternoon in Providence with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Bruins.

The Crunch play four games in six days in Week 20, starting Wednesday in Belleville.

TOP PERFORMERS

Cory Conacher continued his climb up the Crunch record books by breaking into the top 10 in franchise history in scoring. His game-tying goal Wednesday in Rochester was his 149th point with the Crunch in his 150th game, tying him with Brian Loney (191 games) and Mathieu Darche (205 games) for 10th in franchise history. His assist Friday in Hartford moved him into sole possession of 10th place with 150 points.

In his fourth season with the Crunch, Conacher is two points behind Larry Courville for ninth place, four behind Derrick Walser for eighth and seven behind Yanni Gourde-who has the most points during the Lightning affiliation-for seventh. The 29-year-old needs 14 points to move into the top five in franchise history in scoring.

Conacher ranks second on the Crunch and is tied for seventh in the AHL with 47 points (16g, 31a) in 42 games.

Mitchell Stephens made his long-awaited return to the Crunch lineup Friday in Hartford. Prior to Friday, the second-year-pro had only played in two out of the Crunch's 37 games since the start of November due to injury. In his first game back, the 22-year-old opened the scoring in the first period-a goal that held up as the game-winning goal-and added an empty-net tally in the third period for his first two-goal performance of the season. It was the third multi-goal game of his pro career and the first since Dec. 31, 2017 at Binghamton.

In only 11 games this season, Stephens has recorded 10 points (4g, 6a), good for the third-best points per game (0.91) mark on the team. As a rookie last season, he finished with 41 points (19g, 22a) in 70 games and was named an AHL All-Star.

***

Goaltender Eddie Pasquale made one start last week and recorded his first shutout of the season Friday in Hartford. The 28-year-old denied 21-of-21 shots in a 6-0 Crunch win, improving to 15-8-3 with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. It was his second shutout as a member of the Crunch (April 7, 2018 vs. Utica) and 17th of his AHL career.

Since Jan. 18, when the Crunch began their eight-game winning streak, Pasquale is 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average-the best in the AHL in that span among goalies with more than one appearance-and a .944 save percentage.

UPCOMING: BELLEVILLE, ROCHESTER, TORONTO

The Crunch play four games-all against North Division foes-over the course of six days in Week 20.

Syracuse travels to Belleville for the first time this season to take on the Senators. It's the fourth match of the six-game season series; the first three games-all Crunch wins-were played in Syracuse. The final three meetings are in Belleville with the last two coming on back-to-back Wednesdays the last week of March and the first week of April. Belleville has climbed out of the North Division basement with a nine-game points streak (6-0-0-3) and a four-game winning streak, moving within five points of the final playoff spot in the division.

Syracuse plays Rochester in a home-in-home series Friday and Saturday. The Crunch are two points behind Rochester for the top spot in the division and they have two games in hand. They've won the last two games against Rochester despite not holding a lead at any point until the end of the game.

The Crunch end the four-in-six stretch with a Monday afternoon match against the Marlies at Scotiabank Arena, home of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.
