Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns scored two eighth inning runs to complete another comeback victory against the Carolina Mudcats Monday afternoon with a final score of 4-3.
Jacksonville won the series against Carolina 4-1, with one win coming on a walk-off homerun and the other three with late comebacks. The Suns improved to 25-20 in the victory while the Mudcats dropped to 17-28.
Carolina and Jacksonville traded first inning runs to open the scoring. Carolina's Grant Psomas singled home Chase Lambin with two out in the top half to make it 1-0, but Jacksonville tied it in the bottom half with a Cory Dunlap groundout RBI to score Xavier Paul sending it to 1-1.
The Suns took the lead in the third inning when Marshall McDougall doubled home Anthony Raglani to open a 2-1 lead.
Carolina then regained the advantage in the fifth inning with RBI singles from Chase Lambin and Grant Psomas to open a 3-2 Mudcats lead.
After Jacksonville's third inning scoring the Suns had trouble with Carolina starter Jesus Delgado. The right-hander put down the last 13 batters he faced in a seven inning outing.
Blake McGinley entered the game from the bullpen in the eighth inning and walked two of the three batters he faced before being pulled for Scott Nestor. The next batter Marshall McDougall singled home Juan Gonzalez to tie the game 3-3 and A.J. Ellis hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored pinch runner Chin-Lung Hu to end the scoring at 4-3. Both runs were credited to McGinley.
Carolina put two runners on base with two out in the ninth inning, but Suns reliever Jon Meloan sealed the game.
Meloan (5-2) picked up the relief victory for the Suns while Mudcats reliever Blake McGinley picked up the loss.
Jacksonville has Tuesday off before opening a 10-game road trip Wednesday at the Tennessee Smokies starting at 7:15 p.m. Fans can follow the action live in Jacksonville on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com.
