Carolina Mudcats News Release

Jacksonville, FL --- The Jacksonville Suns scored twice in the last of the eighth to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 4-3 at the Baseball Grounds on Monday afternoon.

After two walks against the first three hitters started the Suns' eighth inning from reliever Blake McGinley (L, 0-4), Scott Nestor allowed a soft single to right by Marshall McDougall to tie the game, then AJ Ellis hit a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed pinch-runner Chin Lung Hu to score the tie breaking run.

The Suns' rally ruined a masterful start from Jesus Delgado, who retired the final 14 hitters he faced on just 42 pitches, working seven innings, his longest outing of the season.

Carolina (17-28) went ahead 1-0 in the first against starter Zach Hammes on a single by Grant Psomas. Chase Lambin doubled with two outs, his fourth double in two games. After the Suns (25-20) tied the game in the bottom of the first, Jacksonville nosed ahead 2-1 in the third on a double by McDougall. That hit would be the last against Delgado.

Carolina pushed ahead 3-2 in the fifth by stringing four straight singles against Ramon Troncoso, who was making his Double-A debut. Jose Campusano and Dante Brinkley singled to start the rally, then were knocked in on consecutive hits from Lambin and Psomas.

Jacksonville won the series 4-1, and leads the 30-game season series 7-3. Carolina returns to the Baseball Grounds to open the second half June 18-23.

The Mudcats head home to begin a five-game set against Birmingham Tuesday night at 7:15 PM ET. Daniel Barone (1-2, 3.21) starts for the Mudcats.
