MONTGOMERY -- The Montgomery Biscuits (25-20) raised their record five games over .500 for the first time in 2007, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Birmingham Barons (19-26), 4-3, in the finale of a five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits scored their four runs on a wild pitch, an RBI single, a fielder's choice and a balk in winning four of the five games in the series. It is Montgomery's first 4-1 set since the season-opening matchup with West Tenn.

Two long streaks ended in the victory for Montgomery. Evan Longoria went 0-for-4, halting his on-base streak at 37 consecutive games. Jason Pridie also went 0-for-4, ending his 17-game hitting streak. Biscuits catcher John Jaso did contribute an important single in four at-bats and has now reached base in 25 consecutive games.

After the Barons plated solo tallies in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 edge, Montgomery halved the deficit on Birmingham starter Wes Whisler's run-scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the third.

Three frames later, the Biscuits seized the lead.

With one out, Jaso grounded a single to right off Whisler (2-5). Chris Nowak singled his teammate to third, one of three hits in four at-bats for the Biscuits' first baseman. Gabriel Martinez promptly singled Jaso home to tie the game at 2, with Nowak taking third.

The Barons brought in reliever Ryan Wing, who induced a slow bouncer down the third base line from Shaun Cumberland. Third baseman Chris Kelly threw wildly home as Nowak scored the go-ahead run, allowing Martinez to advance to third. With Josh Asanovich at bat, Cumberland took off early for second base. The aggressiveness rattled Wing, who balked in an attempt to pick off the Biscuits baserunner. Martinez trotted home, giving the Biscuits a 4-2 lead.

Jeremy Flanagan (3-1) earned the victory for Montgomery in relief of starter Jon Barratt. Flanagan pitched 1 1/3 innings, removed after surrendering a solo home run to Thomas Collaro in the seventh.

Richard De Los Santos and Dale Thayer combined to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings for Montgomery, with Thayer recording the final four outs to pick up his ninth save.

The Montgomery Biscuits are idle Tuesday before beginning a ten-game roadtrip Wednesday with a five-game set in Pearl, Mississippi, against the first place Braves.
