Salas Homerun and Smokies Bullpen Stop Braves 4-3 Monday Night

Pearl, MS- Issmael Salas crushed a three-run homerun to left in the second inning to knock in the games first runs.

The Braves Brent Lillibridge knocked in one in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1.

Josh Kroeger then slammed a solo homerun to right field leading off the fourth giving Tennessee a 4-1 advantage.

The Braves scored one back in the bottom of the fifth when Sean Gallagher wild pitched in Van Pope who walked to reach base. The Braves then loaded the bases with one out but Gallagher retired the next two batters to end the threat.

The Smokies bullpen using three different arms kept Mississippi at bay in the 6th, 7th and 8th. Then Geoffrey Jones pitched the ninth to record his sixth save.

The Smokies won the series over Mississippi by taking the last three games straight at TrustmarkPark and are back in first place by a half game over Huntsville. Tennessee returns home Wednesday Night to take on the Jacksonville Suns (LA Dodgers) at Smokies Park. The first pitch is schedule for 7:15 with gates opening at 5:30. Justin Berg (1-2) will start for Tennessee while Justin Orenduff (0-0) starts for the Suns.
