May 21, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
The Huntsville Stars along with Regal Nissan and Mercedes- Benz of Huntsville are teaming up with the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer. Friday, June 1, 2007 The Huntsville Stars will battle the Montgomery Biscuits while sporting pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness. The jerseys will also be auctioned off during the night to the highest bidder...with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
"On June 1st, thanks to the generous corporate sponsorship of Regal Nissan and Mercedes Benz of Huntsville, the Huntsville Stars players will have the opportunity to literally wear their support of Breast Cancer Awareness on their sleeves by donning a pink jersey," said Matt Price, Director of Promotions for the Huntsville Stars. "Fans will have the chance to take those same jerseys home with them from the ballpark. Pink Jersey auctions have been tremendously successful in other baseball cities and I hope our fans will take this opportunity to show support to their favorite player, and even greater support to the American Cancer Society by bidding on a jersey."
"Cancer affects so many lives in the Huntsville community. We can think of no better way to spend a Friday night than helping out the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research," said Tony Reppucci, General Manager of Regal Nissan and Mercedes-Benz of Huntsville. "I hope everyone will come out and see a great game and give their support to the men, women and children who live with this disease every day."
The jersey auction will be a silent auction through the seventh inning. At the conclusion of the seventh inning, the auction will become live. All bids will begin at $25. Fans will have the choice of taking the jersey off the player's back following the game or having the jersey washed. For an additional $10, the winning fan can have the jersey autographed.
American Cancer Society volunteers will also be on hand selling luminary bags in honor and in memory of loved ones affected by cancer. The bags will be lit during a special luminary ceremony during the event. Before the first pitch of the game (around 6:45pm), breast cancer survivors will meet at the main concourse and be escorted onto the field for a special recognition ceremony. The game is set to begin at 7:05pm.
