Jaxx arms push team to 8-0 win

(Huntsville, AL) May 21st- Joe Woerman and two relievers combined on a four hit shutout as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx snapped a three game losing streak by shutting out the Huntsville Stars 8-0. The loss by Huntsville, coupled with a Tennessee win over Mississippi, gives the Smokies a half game lead on Huntsville in the Northern Division. The Diamond Jaxx are 4.5 games back.

Woerman (2-1) blanked the Stars on just two hits over six innings of work. He walked four and struckout eight as Woerman has now gone thirteen consecutive innings without yielding a run. Chad Fillinger and Kam Mickolio combined to blank the Stars over the final three innings. Jaxx pitching wound up with a season high fourteen strikeouts on the night.

Rene Rivera homered and drove in four runs to pace the Diamond Jaxx attack. Rivera's homer off starter Steve Hammond (3-6) capped a six run 6th inning, giving the Diamond Jaxx a 7-0 lead. Hammond had retired the first twelve Diamond Jaxx batters before Erick Monzon broke up the perfect game with a double leading off the 5th inning. Charlton Jimerson also homered for the Diamond Jaxx, who had eights on the night.

The final game of the five game series takes place on Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 CDT. Right-hander Doug Fister (2-3 4.30) will get the start for the Jaxx while Huntsville will counter with left-hander Lindsay Gulin (1-0 0.00).
