Smokies Jake Fox Named Hitter Of The Week

Sevierville, Tennessee - The Southern League has announced that Tennessee Smokies catcher Jake Fox has been awarded with the Hitter of the Week honor for the week of May 14-20.

Fox, a 24-year-old is a native of Ann Arbor, MI, had six multiple hit games in seven days to help pace the Smokies for the week. In the series against the Chattanooga Lookouts, Fox strung together seven consecutive hits over two games, including three home runs. He continued his hot hitting as the Smokies traveled to Mississippi, opening the five-game series with three doubles on Thursday night, followed by a pair of singles on Friday.

This marks the second Southern League Hitter of the Week won by a Smokies player this season. Chris Walker, currently in AAA Iowa, won the award for the week of April 16-22. Mark Holliman also won the Pitcher of the Week award the same week. The Smokies currently have the top three hitters in the Southern League for average in Josh Kroeger (.374 BA), Jorge Cortes (.359), and Fox (.359) respectively.

Tennessee finishes a five game series on the road tonight against the Mississippi Braves. The Smokies will return home to face the Jacksonville Suns for five games beginning on Wednesday May 23rd.
