Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts put forth a dominant pitching performance for eight innings; however, the perils of a nine-inning game resulted in a ninth-inning bullpen meltdown and a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Mobile BayBears.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third, when the Lookouts exploded for two runs.
A one-out Luis Bolivar double began the rally. After Carlos Fisher lined out to the shortstop, Drew Anderson nailed an RBI single to center. The speedy Anderson wheeled around the remaining bases to score the second run of the inning on a double by Paul Janish.
The Lookouts tacked-on another run in the sixth inning on a trio of singles off of the bats of Enrique Cruz, Jesse Gutierrez, and Tyrell Godwin.
Meanwhile, Carlos Fisher pitched a dominant game on the mound for the Lookouts. The 24-year-old right-hander threw six shutout inning, while retiring eight batters by means of strikeout.
With a 3-0 lead, Calvin Medlock took the mound for the Lookouts out of the bullpen. After preserving the shutout in the seventh and eighth inning, Medlock would implode in the ninth.
The ninth started off well for Medlock, as he struck out the first batter, Ronnie Merrill; however, the game would take a bleak turn on a seemingly innocuous Phil Avlas single.
Emilio Bonifacio followed with a strikeout and the Lookouts looked primed to win the rubber match of the series. Avlas had advanced to second on defensive indifference during Bonifacio's at-bat and found his way home on a subsequent Chris Rahl single. With the tying run on base and two outs, Javier Brito slammed a full-count fastball over the left field wall. With the hit, the lead slipped through the Lookouts' hands.
Carlos Bohorquez (2-2) then came into relieve the game-tattered Medlock and proceeded to issue walks to the next two batters. Carlos Gonzalez sealed the fate of the game with an RBI single to center field.
Abe Woody, who entered the game in the eighth, shut the door on the Lookouts in the ninth to improve his record to 2-2 for the season.
The Lookouts will embark upon a five-game away series against West Tennessee on Wednesday. They will return to AT&T Field on Monday, May 28th to play consecutive home stands against Mississippi and Huntsville.
