
Streaky 'Wolves Fall to Curve 6-2

The SeaWolves ran into another strong pitching performance by the Altoona Curve on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark as they dropped their third straight game by a 6-2 score.
Altoona got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Luke Putkonen. Brock Holt and Starling Marte reached on consecutive singles and they were sacrificed over to third on an Eric Fryer bunt. Jordy Mercer hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Holt for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the top of the second against Altoona starter Jared Hughes. With one out, Michael Bertram came up with his fifth hit of the series with a double to straight away center. With two outs, Deik Scram, in his first game since April 30, doubled to the gap in right, bringing home Bertram tying the game at a run apiece.
Altoona regained the lead in the fifth. With one out, Marte walked and Fryer singled putting two on. With two outs, Jeremy Farrell doubled home Marte for a 2-1 Curve lead. Tony Sanchez doubled home Fryer and Farrell for a 4-1 Altoona edge.
The Curve tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Marte led off with a single and stole second for his 10th steal. Fryer singled home Marte for a 5-1 Curve lead. Fryer was then doubled home by Farrell for a 6-1 Altoona lead.
The SeaWolves threatened a comeback in the top of the ninth. With two outs, Francisco Martinez singled and reached second on defensive indifference. Scram singled home Martinez for his second RBI of the game, making it 6-2. Erie would get no closer as Altoona closer Noah Krohl shut the door.
Putkonen (0-4) took his fourth loss of the season despite an improved outing. He worked a season-best six-plus innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits with a walk while striking out a season-high five.
The 'Wolves and Curve play the third game of a four-game series on Saturday evening at Blair County Ballpark.5:30 First Pitch. Righty Jacob Turner (1-1, 2.58 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Michael Colla (1-1, 3.52 ERA).
