Tonight, the SeaWolves look to snap a two-game slide as they take on the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) in the second game of a four-game series at Blair County Ballpark. Last night, the SeaWolves could not break through with runners on base as the team went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 runners on base in a 7-2 loss to the Curve. Erie has dropped two straight and five on the last six games against Altoona. Last night's loss dropped the SeaWolves to 1-4 at Blair County Ballpark...Tonight, the 'Wolves send right hander Luke Putkonen to the mound making his seventh start of the season and second against Altoona. Putkonen is the only SeaWolves starter who remains hitless in 2011. He took a no-decision in his last start against Bowie, snapping a string of three straight losses. He took a no-decision in his first start of the season against the Curve on April 9. He allowed a run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in that start. Putkonen has not made it passed the fourth inning since his second start of the year on April 15...Righty Jared Hughes takes the mound for the Curve making his eighth appearance and seventh start and third appearance against the SeaWolves. In five innings pitched against Erie, Hughes has allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts (One start, one relief app). Hughes picked up a win in his last start against Richmond allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts in seven innings (season-high).
- Altoona leads the season series over Erie 5-3. The SeaWolves and Curve meet 18 times in 2011. The two clubs are in a stretch of 10 consecutive games of the season series being played in Altoona. The Curve makes one more trip to Erie in July.- Defensively, the SeaWolves have committed 37 errors which is second-most in the EL. - The SeaWolves are 12-10 in night games and 3-7 in day games. - Erie's pitching staff is 10th in the league with a 4.48 team ERA. The SeaWolves have given up 164 runs which is the most allowed in the league.- The SeaWolves are third in the EL with 165 runs scored.- Erie's offense is tied for second in the league with a .277 team batting average.- The 'Wolves are hitting .253 with RISP, .229 with two outs and RISP and .288 with runners on base.- As a team, the SeaWolves are 7-for-28 with the bases loaded. - The 'Wolves are 4-9 on the road in 2011.- Erie is 9-12 against the Western Division.- Justin Henry is second in the league with a .360 batting average. Henry is hitting .444 in his last 10 games with 16 hits and six RBI.
