New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Bobby Lanigan and Jake Stevens combined to throw a shutout and Steve Singleton homered to lead the Rock Cats to a 2-0 win over Portland before a sellout crowd of 7,298.

Singleton returned from Triple-A Rochester earlier in the day and was a last-minute addition to the lineup. The move proved to be a smart one as Singleton finished the night with two hits and scored both runs for the `Cats.

Sea Dogs starter Alex Wilson retired the first nine batters he faced until Singleton lined a double to right field to lead off the fourth inning. Chris Herrmann's ground out moved Singleton to third before Joe Benson grounded out to short to knock in Singleton for the first run of the game.

In the sixth, Singleton delivered a two-out homer over the right field wall.

Lanigan (4-2) scattered three hits while striking out four in eight scoreless innings. Stevens allowed a leadoff single to Che-Hsuan Lin, but forced a double play in the next at bat. Stevens walked the next batter before forcing a fly out that ended the game and resulted in his second save.

Wilson (4-2) struck out seven in six solid innings. He limited the Rock Cats to two runs on two hits, but came up short against Lanigan.

ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: SS Steve Singleton went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI - coming on his solo homer in the sixth - in his first game since returning from Rochester.
