(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (19-16) used another big inning to defeat the Binghamton Mets (12-20) 5-3 on Friday night in front of 5,950 fans at Waterfront Park. A night after scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to win 7-4 over the B-Mets, the Thunder used a four-run fourth inning to propel them to a 5-3 victory. Melky Mesa's two doubles and Cody Johnson's long solo homerun provided ample offense for the Thunder in the win.

After Kei Igawa gave-up a two-run homerun in the top of the fourth, the Thunder came to the plate looking to answer back. Immediately after Mets' starter Brad Holt walked the first two Thunder hitters, Melky Mesa lined a long double into deep center field to score two and tie the game. Trenton would add two more runs in the inning thanks to wild throws by Binghamton players. Mesa scored on a Jordanny Valdespin wild throw error at first to make it 3-2, and Ray Kruml took third base and home plate on wild pitches by Holt to extend the Trenton lead to 4-2.

Looking for an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, Cody Johnson would provide just that when he homered over the wall in deep right-center field. The lengthy long ball put the Thunder ahead by a score of 5-3 heading into the ninth inning.

Kei Igawa threw six, strong innings to notch his first win as a member of the Thunder starting rotation. The victory brings the Thunder to three games over five hundred for the first time in the 2011 season.
