Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - Right-hander Brad Peacock recorded 14 strikeouts over seven strong innings and Stephen King drove in three runs as the Harrisburg Senators (17-17) handed the Richmond Flying Squirrels (16-19) a, 5-2, loss in front of 5,292 at The Diamond on Friday night.

The Senators struck first against Squirrels' right-hander Justin Fitzgerald, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With one out in the inning, Matt Antonelli doubled to left field. King followed and scalded an RBI single past a diving Ryan Lormand at third base.

The Squirrels drew even against Peacock in the bottom of the third inning. The two-out rally was sparked by Justin Christian, when he singled through the left-side of the infield. Nick Noonan followed and roped a double into the right-field corner. Christian raced around from first base to tie the game, 1-1.

Fitzgerald (2-3) settled in nicely, and allowed just one additional hit into the sixth inning. However, after striking out the first two batters in the sixth, the righty walked Derek Norris to ignite a Harrisburg rally. Antonelli followed with a single and both runners moved up on a Fitzgerald wild pitch. King then singled back through the middle to plate both runners for a 3-1 Harrisburg lead.

The sixth inning uprising doomed Fitzgerald to his third defeat of the season, which he endured over a season-long six innings. He allowed three earned runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five.

Peacock (5-1) got much stronger as his outing stretched through seven innings. He struck out the last five batters he faced, and finished with a career-high 14 for the night. He earned his fifth win of the year, allowing a lone run on five hits.

With Edwin Quirarte on in relief in the eighth inning, Norris expanded the Senators' advantage with a solo-home run to left field. The Squirrels got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Nick Noonan singled to score Christian, who had doubled. Noonan collected three hits on the night, and drove in both runs for Richmond in the ballgame.

The Senators tacked a final run on against right-hander Jason Stoffel in the ninth inning to cap the scoring, 5-2. Left-hander Pat McCoy conceded the Squirrels' eighth-inning run, but finished out the win for Harrisburg with a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Game three of the four-game series is scheduled for 6:35 PM on Saturday night at The Diamond. RHP Daryl Maday (1-2, 3.00) will make the start for the Squirrels. Harrisburg has yet to name a starter for game three of the series.
