Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach Mike Stothers will serve as one of two coaches representing the Eastern Conference in the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino. Stothers secured his spot on the staff after Manchester's 3-2 win over Providence last night clinched the best record in the Eastern Conference at year's end.

In his first season behind the bench for the Monarchs, Stothers has guided the team to the best winning percentage in the AHL (.767) through the first 30 games. They lead the Eastern Conference with 46 points and have a 13-point lead for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Manchester is averaging the most goals per game in the AHL at 3.50 and has allowed the fourth-fewest goals per game (2.33). Its plus-35 goal differential (105 goals for, 70 against) is the best in the AHL.

The Monarchs have the longest active winning streak in the league after their fifth straight victory last night. They have won each of their last nine home games beginning on Nov. 8, the longest home winning streak by any team in the AHL this season.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Stothers most recently coached the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League from 2011-14. His coaching experience includes stops in the NHL as an assistant coach with Atlanta (2010-11) and Philadelphia (2000-02) as well as time in the AHL as the head coach for Grand Rapids (2007-08) and an assistant with Hershey between 1991 and 1996. In addition to Moose Jaw, he also coached in Canadian juniors as the head coach of the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL (2002-07).

The 2015 All-Star Classic will be held from Jan. 25-26 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, home of the Utica Comets.
