Syracuse Crunch News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Denny Urban scored the overtime game winner and extended the Springfield Falcons' (22-9-2-0) Northeast Division lead over the Syracuse Crunch (20-9-3-0) to two points in a 3-2 victory Sunday at MassMutual Center.

A holding-the-stick penalty on Slater Koekkoek 1:54 into overtime gave Springfield its sixth power play and Urban converted from the left circle at the 3:10 mark after several bids were blocked or saved.

Luke Adam, acquired from Rochester Dec. 16, deflected a puck past Andrei Vasilevskiy 39 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Falcons lead. Vladislav Namestnikov tied the score at 1-1 when he scored at 14:48 of the first. After taking the puck around the net, Namestnikov's centering pass ricocheted from Dalton Smith to Joey Mormina at the left point. Mormina's shot was saved, but Namestnikov buried the rebound.

Mike Angelidis put the Crunch ahead, 2-1, late in the second period with his 12th goal of the season. Jonathan Marchessault's aggressive forecheck created a steal behind the Springfield goal. Quick passing to Yanni Gourde at the left side of the net to Angelidis coming from the right side overwhelmed Anton Forsberg. Jonathan Marchessault added his team-leading 28th point (8g, 20a) of the season with the secondary assist; Gourde is second on the Crunch at 26 points (13g, 13a).

The Falcons responded with the equalizer 45 seconds later when Luke Adam scored his second goal of the game, a rebound of a Jaime Sifers shot, at the 18:17 mark of the second period.

Vasilevskiy (9-4-3) topped 30 of 33 shots against him, and Anton Forsberg (15-3-0) stopped 15 of 17 attempts by the Crunch, their smallest shot total of the season.

Outside of the game-winning goal, Syracuse stopped Springfield's first five power-play opportunities. The Crunch finished 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

Namestnikov exited the ice after he blocked a shot late in the first period. He briefly returned in the second before heading back to the locker room. His first-period goal was his 13th point in 11 games with Syracuse this season.

The Crunch travel to Rochester New Year's Eve for a 3:05 p.m. battle against the Amerks, the fourth contest between the two this season. Rochester has lost seven of its last 10 games, including a 3-2 loss to Syracuse Dec. 17.
