SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... Travis Green of the Western Conference's Utica Comets and Mike Stothers of the Eastern Conference's Manchester Monarchs have earned spots on the coaching staffs for the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino, to be held January 25-26 in Utica, N.Y.

The Comets and Monarchs have clinched the best record in each conference as of the pre-determined deadline - the end of play on Dec. 31. In addition, one head coach from each conference will be selected by league President and CEO David Andrews to fill out the All-Star coaching staffs.

Utica (21-5-5-0, .758) is first in the Western Conference under Green, their second-year head coach who will be making his first All-Star appearance. Green guided the Comets to a 35-32-5-4 record in 2013-14, tying for ninth in the conference after beginning their inaugural season with 10 consecutive losses. Since Jan. 18, Green has led Utica to a mark of 45-17-8-1 (.697) in 71 games.

Before joining the Comets, Green, 44, served as the assistant general manager and interim head coach of the 2012-13 Western Hockey League champion and Memorial Cup runner-up Portland Winterhawks. As an assistant coach beginning in 2008, Green helped Portland to three consecutive league finals appearances.

A native of Castlegar, B.C., Green played 970 games over 14 seasons in the NHL with the New York Islanders, Anaheim, Phoenix, Toronto and Boston. Originally drafted in 1989, Green appeared in 164 games over his first three professional seasons in the AHL with the Capital District Islanders.

Manchester (22-6-1-1, .767) leads the Eastern Conference with the AHL's best record under Stothers, who is in his first season as head coach of the Monarchs. This will be the third AHL All-Star Classic for Stothers, who was an assistant under Bill Barber at the 1998 and 1999 events.

Stothers, 52, has 30-plus years of professional hockey experience as both a player and coach. He served as a head coach with Moose Jaw (WHL) from 2011-14 and Owen Sound (OHL) from 2002-07, and was head coach of the AHL's Grnad Rapids Griffins in 2007-08. Stothers was an assistant coach in the AHL with Hershey (1994-96) and Philadelphia (1996-2000) - winning a Calder Cup championship in 1998 - and in the NHL with Philadelphia (2000-02) and Atlanta (2010-11).

As a player, Stothers, a Toronto-born defenseman who was selected in the first round (21st overall) by the Flyers in 1980, played 671 games in the AHL and won a Calder Cup with Maine in 1984.

Rosters for the All-Star Classic will be announced in early January, and AHL fans will have the opportunity to determine the starting lineups for the 2015 AHL All-Star Game through on-line fan balloting.
