It was a tough night in London for the Guelph Storm.
Handed a 10-4 loss, the Storm began falling behind 3-0 just 2:12 into the first period and never fully recovered.
Vlad Barulin, the best player for the Storm in the loss, recorded two goals, while Jake Bricknell, appearing in his first game with Guelph, had a two point night with a goal and an assist.
Goaltender Bradley van Schubert saw 47 shots on the night, while Emanuel Vella turned away 16 of 20 shots in the win.
It didn't take long for things to get going as the Storm's Austin Hall received a hooking penalty just 29 seconds into the game. On the power play, Mitch Marner opened the scoring for the Knights at the 1:06 mark of the period.
30 seconds later the Knights doubled up on their lead, this time with Christian Dvorak capitalizing off a three-way passing play to get it by Van Schubert.
Quickly putting the Storm down three goals, Aaron Berisha recorded his 10th of the season at the 2:12 point of the first.
Guelph responded just short of six minutes later as Barulin would get behind London's defense for a breakaway, finding the five hole on Vella to put the visitors on the board.
Restoring their three-goal lead just 42 seconds later, a three-way passing play would go off Storm defenseman Kyle Rhodes' skate to put the Knights up 4-1 8:44 in the first. Marner would be credited with the marker.
The Storm would get their first power play of the game just over two minutes later as Brandon Crawley was given two for cross checking. A minute into the advantage, Jake Bricknell would find the back of the net, putting the puck short side to pull Guelph within two with his first in a Storm jersey.
With less than five minutes remaining in an already busy opening frame, Rhodes would take exception to hit given by London's Max Jones. The two, participating in a bit of an altercation, would be sent to the dressing room following the play, with Rhodes receiving the extra two for slashing. The Knights, going 2/2 on the man-advantage to start the contest, would make it a 5-2 score as JJ Piccinich capitalized.
The middle frame wouldn't be much different for the Storm, with London running away in an 8-3 score after 40 minutes.
To start the second, both Owen MacDonald and Kole Sherwood would put up markers at the 4:33 and 7:22 points respectively, making it 7-2 for the home team.
Shortly after Sherwood's tally, London would take two penalties just 20 seconds apart, giving the Storm a five-on-three advantage. Bricknell, continuing to play a strong game individually, would quarterback a three-way passing play, feeding Tyler Boston who would get it off quickly to defenseman Garrett McFadden. McFadden, scoring his third of the season, would make it a 7-3 score with 11 minutes remaining in the period.
Similar to that of the opening frame, Piccinich would have the final say for the second, scoring London's eighth marker with under two minutes remaining.
In the final 20 minutes, the Knights would add two more, with Barulin scoring his second of the night in between London's tallies.
The Knights took the game with a 10-4 result.
The Storm get right back into it Saturday night, visiting the Sarnia Sting.
