Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Mississauga, ON) - The trio of Logan Brown, Cristiano DiGiacinto and Cole Carter combined for nine points, as the Spitfires outlasted the Steelheads 7-4 Friday night in Mississauga.
Brown scored consecutive goals (3, 4) in the first period, staking Windsor (13-4-3-0) to an early 2-0 lead and DiGiacinto (9, 10) followed with a pair of his own in the second, breaking up a tie game on both occasions, in a wild back-and-forth contest.
All even at 4-4, defenceman Mikhail Sergachev (1G, 3A) finished off a dazzling, end-to-end rush for his 5th of the season - the eventual game-winner - at 10:24 of the third period.
Markus Soberg (2) and Aaron Luchuk (12) had the other goals for a Spitfires club that won a third straight and its eighth road game of the season.
Carter had three assists and nine Spitfires recorded a +2 or better rating.
Stefan LeBlanc (4), Damian Bourne (7), Owen Tippett (3) and Michael McLeod (6) had the goals for Mississauga (9-10-0-2).
The Steelheads fired 36 shots - including 15 in the third period - at Garret Hughson, who recorded his fourth win in as many starts as a member of the Spitfires.
Jack Flinn (22 saves) took the loss.
The Spits now enjoy a day off before beginning a stretch of five straight home games, hosting the Soo Greyhounds Sunday afternoon (2:05).
