Stingrays Topple Everblades in Front of Sellout Crowd on Pack the House Night

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (31-21-2-2) defeated the Florida Everblades (30-25-0-3) 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 10,304 Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Everblades forward Matt Beca broke open the scoring late in the first period slipping a shot under the glove of Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen from the bottom of the right-wing circle at 17:36. Forward Mathieu Roy and defenseman David Fischer earned the assists.

The Stingrays tied the contest early in the second period when forward Luke Popko fired home his third of the season between the legs of Everblades keeper Adam Avramenko at 2:14. Forward Jordan Pietrus made it 2-1 Rays at 10:43 from defenseman Josh Godfrey.

The Everblades knotted it back up at 2:33 of the final frame with a tally from forward Ian McDonald. Forwards Evgeny Timkin and Alex Hutchings recorded assists. With just over two minutes to play, Pietrus buried the game-winning marker at 17:56 from forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Joe Finley.

Owen picked up the victory stopping 16 of 18 Everblades shots. Avramenko suffered the loss in his ECHL debut blocking 36 of 39 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays ended the night going 0-for-3 on the power play while the Everblades went 0-for-5.
