Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals (23-23-6-1) scored three unanswered goals on Friday night at First Arena to defeat the Wheeling Nailers (29-23-0-3), 3-1. The victory was the first for the Jackals this season under new head coach Robbie Nichols, who earned a win in his ECHL debut.

After Kelly Miller scored on a wrist shot from the right circle at 5:42 of the first period to put Wheeling up 1-0, Justin Donati punched in a rebound from the right goal line at 10:39 of the opening frame to tie the game, 1-1.

The teams remained tied until the 19:23 mark of the middle frame when Josh Brittain poked in a loose puck from the top of the crease to give Elmira the advantage, 2-1.

Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau was strong in net as he improved to 14-11-4-0, making 23 saves on 24 shots and earning the game's first star. The St. Lazare, Quebec native held his ground as the Nailers tried to tie the game late with goaltender Peter Delmas pulled. After R.J. Anderson pushed the puck into the Nailers end with under a minute remaining in the final period, Michael Dubuc poked it in from the right circle into the gaping net to seal it, 3-1, at the 19:49 mark.

Delmas fell to 8-4-0-0, stopping 24 saves on 26 shots. Wheeling dropped its eighth-straight game (0-7-0-1).
