
Stingrays Snap Streak With 3-2 Win Over Johnstown

Johnstown, PA - The South Carolina Stingrays (31-13-4-4) snapped a six-game winless skid with a 3-2 victory over the Johnstown Chiefs (12-26-5-3) in front of 1,311 at Cambria County War Memorial Arena Friday night. Stingrays forward Gregg Johnson scored a goal and an assist.
The Stingrays started the scoring on the power play at 11:54 of the first period off a snap shot from Johnson beating Chiefs goaltender John Murray low glove-side. Forward Keith Johnson and defenseman Grant Farrell earned assists on Johnson's 13 goal of the season. The Chiefs tied the game at 17:17 as forward Troy Schwab deflected a shot from winger Dan Gendur past Stingrays goalie Shane Connelly.
Chiefs forward Chanse Fitzpatrick made it 2-1 on a breakaway at 11:57 of the second period from forward Brian Kaufman beating Connelly over the left shoulder. The Stingrays responded seconds later with a goal from forward Trent Campbell at 12:03. G. Johnson netted the lone assist.
Stingrays defenseman Dylan Yeo carried the offense into the third period and potted the game-winning tally at 2:00 from rookies Trevor Bruess and Jake Hauswirth. Connelly earned his 10 win of the season stopping 22 of 24 Chiefs chances. Murray suffers his 13 loss kicking away 40 of 43 Stingrays opportunities. The Chiefs ended the night going 0-for-3 on the power play while the Stingrays finished 1-for-6.
The Stingrays square off against the Johnstown Chiefs for the final time this season tomorrow, Saturday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m. at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
