
Chiefs let Stingrays off hook

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs were defeated by the South Carolina Stingrays Friday night by a score of 3-2 at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.
The Stingrays scored first, taking advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. Gregg Johnson potted his 13th of the season with Keith Johnson and Grant Farrell registering the assists at 11:54. The Chiefs were able to fight back and tie the game up late in the period at 17:17. Dan Gendur blasted a puck on former Chief Shane Connelly and Troy Schwab was right there to control the rebound and send it in for his 11th of the season. Russ Sinkewich picked up his third assist of the season.
Midway through the second period the Chiefs took their first lead of the game. Chanse Fitzpatrick broke loose on a breakaway and sniped the puck in top right for his team-leading 23rd of the year. The goal came in at 11:57 with Brian Kaufman being accredited the assist. The Stingrays answered almost immediately back. Trent Campbell took the puck off the face off from Johnson and put it by John Murray to tie the game up at 12:03.
The Stingrays gained the lead two minutes into the third period. Dylan Yeo scored his 10th of the season with Trevor Breuss and Jake Hauswirth registering the assists. Murray looked to keep the Chiefs within a goal stopping a barrage of shots including a fantastic glove save on Spencer Carbery. The Chiefs however were unable to get another goal past their former teammate.
Murray took the loss and made 40 saves in the game. The Chiefs went 0-for-3 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs return to home ice on Saturday, February 6 against the Stingrays at 7:05. The Chiefs will be host their third annual Pups and Pucks Night where Chiefs fans can bring their dogs with them to the game. Gittler's Aquarium and Aviary has partnered with the Chiefs again for the third year to provide a giveaway item to fans who brings their pups with them to the game.
