
Wranglers Complete Comeback In Shootout Over Steelheads, 5-4

Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers (19-22-4, 42 Points) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (30-11-3, 63 Points) 5-4 in the shootout in front of 3,651 fans Thursday night at the Orleans Arena. Las Vegas scored four third-period goals to erase a 4-0 deficit en route to the shootout win. Wranglers forwards Ned Lukacevic, Andrew Orpik, and Jerry Pollastrone all scored in the shootout for Las Vegas to cap off the comeback. Wranglers forward Andrew Orpik scored twice in regulation, including a goal with 1:54 to force overtime. Forwards Adam Miller and Ned Lukacevic also scored in regulation for Las Vegas. Wranglers goaltender Michael Ouzas made 30 saves for his 16th win of the year. Idaho center Tyler Spurgeon tallied a hat-trick and added an assist in the loss. Forward Mark McCutcheon added a goal and an assist, and forward Mark Derlago assisted on three goals in the Steelheads third shootout loss this season. Idaho goalie Richard Bachman stopped 27 of 31 saves for the Steelheads. The Wranglers will take on the Idaho Steelheads Friday, February 5th, at 7:05 p.m. at the Orleans Arena.
The Steelheads opened the scoring late in the first period with a power-play goal from center Mark McCutcheon at 14:40. Forwards Tyler Spurgeon and Mark Derlago set up McCutcheon's fifth goal of the season for the 1-0 Idaho lead.
In the second period, the Steelheads used three goals from Tyler Spurgeon goals to take a 4-0 lead. At 12:31, Spurgeon snapped in his 10th goal of the season while on the power play to pad the Idaho lead to 2-0. Just 1:21 later, Spurgeon tallied again on the man advantage. McCutcheon and Derlago assisted on Spurgeon's second goal of the period for the 3-0 Steelheads lead. With just 46-seconds remaining in the second, Spurgeon netted his hat-trick goal to cap off a three goal period for Idaho.
Just 29-seconds into the third period, the Wranglers broke into the Idaho lead with a tally from rookie Andrew Orpik. Defenseman Chris Frank and left wing Ned Lukacevic set up Orpik's eighth goal of the season to trim the Steelheads lead to 4-1. Las Vegas chipped into the lead again at 10:24 with a tally from forward Adam Miller. Forward Kyle Hagel sprung Miller who made a great move to tally his 14th goal of the season, and cut the Idaho lead to 4-2. The Wranglers kept the pressure on at 13:44, with a goal from Ned Lukacevic. Miller and Frank set up Lukacevic to trim the Idaho lead to 4-3. With just 1:54 remaining in regulation, Orpik one-timed in his second goal of the game while on a five-on-three power play. Orpik's second goal of the game pulled the Wranglers even at 4-4 with their fourth goal of the period to force overtime.
After a scoreless overtime session, the Wranglers outscored the Steelheads in the shootout 3-1 with goals from Andrew Orpik, Jerry Pollastrone, and Ned Lukacevic to cap off the 5-4 Wranglers victory.
