
Canucks' Burrows Named Meigray ECHL Alumnus Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former ECHL and current Vancouver Canucks left wing Alexandre Burrows is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for January.
The leading distributor of game-worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray sold more than 700 game-worn ECHL jerseys in 2008-09 and has sold more than 3,600 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.
Burrows had 15 goals and 22 points to help the Canucks go 10-2-1 and move from seventh place to second place in the Western Conference. He had a pair of hat tricks and a game-winning goal while finishing with a plus-minus rating of +17 in January.
The Pincourt, Quebec native registered a point in 12 of 13 games during the month including a 12-game point streak (13g-6a) from Dec. 31-Jan. 25. He had a five-game goal streak (6g) from Jan. 11-21 and a three-game goal streak (7g) from Jan. 2-7.
Burrows was named the National Hockey League's 'First Star' for the week ending Jan. 10 after leading the league with seven points (6g-1a). He recorded his first career hat trick in a 7-3 win over Columbus on Jan. 5 and repeatied the feat in a 4-0 win over Phoenix on Jan. 7. He became only the second NHL player since 2002 to score back-to-back hat tricks, joining Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk, who accomplished the feat on Nov. 1 and 3, 2007.
Burrows began his career in the ECHL in 2002-03 when he had 26 points (9g-17a) and 201 penalty minutes in 53 games with Greenville and six points (4g-2a) and 64 penalty minutes in 13 games with Baton Rouge.
The 28 year old returned to the ECHL in 2003-04 and was selected to the All-Star Game where he had an assist in the Eastern Conference's 7-6 win. He had career bests with 29 goals, 44 assists and 73 points in 64 regular season games and had two goals and 28 penalty minutes in four games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Columbia while also playing two games in the American Hockey League for Manitoba.
He began 2004-05 with Columbia and had six points (5g-1a) in four games before being called up to Manitoba where he had 26 points (9g-17a) and 107 penalty minutes in 72 regular season games and 37 penalty minutes in 14 playoff games.
Burrows has 152 points (75g-77a) and 563 penalty minutes in 343 regular season games and five points (4g-1a) and 34 penalty minutes in 21 Stanley Cup playoff games with Vancouver. In 2008-09 he set career highs with 28 goals, 23 assists and 51 points. His 28 goals broke the record for the most by an ECHL graduate in a single NHL season, which was previously held by Andrew Brunette with 27 in 2006-07.
There have been 432 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 25 this season and a record 52 who made their debut in 2008-09. The ECHL has had 240 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 176 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last five seasons for an average of more than 35 per year.
