Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Roman Marakhovski. His signing comes on the heels of two Gladiator call-ups to the AHL earlier today. He has signed a standard player contract and will be available for tonight's contest against the North Division's Toledo Walleye.
A 31-year-old Ukraine native, Marakhovski is a 12-year pro who has seen previous action in the ECHL, the Central Hockey League, the Southern Professional Hockey League, and overseas in France. In 156 total ECHL games between the Louisiana Ice Gators, Johnstown Chiefs, Greensboro Generals and Augusta Lynx, he has notched four goals and 13 assists for 17 points and 132 penalty minutes.
Last season, the 6'2" 195-pound blue liner appeared in 49 games with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the SPHL, totaling 10 points and 60 penalty minutes and added three goals in five playoff games. Following one season of juniors in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Marakhovski made his professional debut during the 1998-99 season with Columbus when they were a member of the Central Hockey League.
The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Friday, February 5th vs. Toledo at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
