Stingrays Slip Past Everblades in Overtime
October 28, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Olivier Archambault scored twice including the game-winning goal at 1:11 of overtime to lift the South Carolina Stingrays (1-2-1-0, 3pts) to a 2-1 victory over the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena Friday night. Despite the loss, the Everblades (3-0-1-0, 7pts) do pick up a point in the standings.
After a scoreless first period, Olivier Archambault scored the first of his two goals of the game at 13:04 of the second period on the power play. Kelly Zajac delivered a pass from the right wing circle directly to an unguarded Achambault at the top of the crease who then slipped the puck behind Florida netminder Daniel Altshuller for the tally.
Just 49 seconds later, the Everblades evened the score when Brendan O'Donnell recorded his first goal of the season as he flexed a shot from the low slot past South Carolina goaltender Adam Carlson to put the score at 1-1 after two periods.
Both goaltenders came up with some big stops in the final stanza of regulation to send the game in overtime. However, a late Everblades penalty put the Stingrays on a 4-on-3 power play to start the extra session.
Just 1:11 into overtime Domenic Monardo hurled a shot from the high slot which was initially stopped by Altshuller. However, the rebound bounced right to Archambault at the top of the crease, and he was able to slip the puck into the net to seal the 2-1 overtime victory for South Carolina.
Carlson was solid in net earning the win by stopping 31 of 32 shots faced. Altshuller takes the loss allowing two goals on 20 shots.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at Germain Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m. Promotional details for the game listed below.
