Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS. - Returning home after a two-weeks' absence due to a three-game road trip, the Indy Fuel rallied with two third period goals only to fall to the undefeated, league-leading Tulsa Oilers Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, 3-2.
The visiting Oilers had surged into a 3-0 advantage by the 6:10 of the second period on the strength of goals scored by Christophe Lalancette at the :41 mark of the opening period and strikes stoked by Danick Paquette and Phil Brewer, 1:57 apart in the middle stanza.
Indy made a game of it in the third period when Marek Tvrdon delivered his first goal of the campaign on the Fuel's first power play goal of the season at 7:22, followed by a Patrick D'Amico snipe 3:11 later at 10:33.
However, rookie Goaltender Jamie Phillips closed the door the rest of the way for the victors as he rejected 34 of 36 Fuel offerings, including 12 of 14 in the final period. The Michigan Tech product earned the game's #1 Star while Tvrdon and Fuel defenseman Matt Stanisz were named the second and third stars respectively.
It was the second consecutive Friday night in which the Oilers prevailed over the Fuel. Last Friday night in Oklahoma, the Oilers bested Indy, 6-1.
Tulsa swells its season opening win streak to six while the Fuel sustain their third straight setback, lowering its record to 5(2-3-0).
The Fuel cap the two-game weekend home stand Saturday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum where they will host the two time defending Kelly Cup Champions, the Allen Americans in a 7:35 face-off.
The game will be simulcast on COZI-TV and on CBS Sports Radio 1430 as Terry Ficorelli is joined by Bob Kravitz and Talor Whitaker.
Next Home Game: Saturday, October 29 vs. Allen Americans - 7:35 p.m. Halloween has arrived early at Indiana Farmers Coliseum! Come in your best costume and go Trick-Or-Treating in the concourse during the game. Prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed guys, gals and ghouls!
