Beast Earn Point in Fourth Straight Game But Drop Shootout Decision

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Beast forward Yannick Veilleux had the game on his stick and the goaltender down and out in the sixth round of the shootout but out of nowhere, Eamon McAdam threw out his paddle and made a spectacular save to give the visiting Missouri Mavericks a 5-4 shootout win over the Brampton Beast at the Powerade Centre on Friday night.
David Vallorani, Brandon Marino, Tim Billingsley and Jordan Henry each lit the lamp for the Beast, who have no earned points in each of the four games they have played thus far this season.
The Mavericks were able to find the back of the net early in the opening frame as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead by the 5:41 mark of the first period with goals from Sam Povorozniouk and Andrew Courtney.
The potent Beast offense wouldn't be denied for long. With the Beast on the power play, David Vallorani located a puck near the faceoff circle on the left wing side and lifted a perfect wrist shot over the blocker of Missouri starter Ville Husso at 8:25 of the first period.
The Beast kept pressing and were rewarded for their efforts. With a man in the box, David Pacan hit Brandon Marino with a perfect pass and sent him in alone on a breakaway. The Beast captain perfectly executed a fantastic leg-kick deke and buried his second goal in as many games to tie the game at 2-2 at 14:18.
The raucous Brampton crowd propelled the Beast to take the lead before the end of the opening period. Tim Billingsley left the penalty box and immediately received a tape-to-tape pass from Yannick Veilleux, then went in alone and beat Husso cleanly for his first goal of the season at 16:02.
The Mavericks were resilient and managed to tie the game less than a minute later, with Povorozniouk netting his second of the game at 16:54, sending the game to a 3-3 tie heading into the first intermission.
The Mavericks changed their goaltender after 20 minutes of play and brought in Eamon McAdam for the remainder of the game. The change did them no good as the Beast took a 4-3 lead just over five minutes into the second period. Jordan Henry took a shot from the slot that pinballed through a sea of bodies in front of the goal and beat the goaltender at 5:39.
The Beast maintained their lead into the early moments of the third period before the strong Mavericks squad fought back. Rocco Carzo tied the game for Missouri just eight seconds into the third period, beating Beast starting goaltender Bryan Pitton with a perfect backhand shot.
The back-and-forth play continued throughout the third period and overtime, and finished in a shootout.
David Vallorani scored in the shootout for the Beast, while Povorozniouk and Lukas Lofquist answered for Missouri.
The Beast and the Mavericks will face off again on Sunday, October 30 at 2:00 PM at the Powerade Centre in Brampton.
Notes: The Beast finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Chris Leveille failed to record a point, snapping his point streak at three games. Luke Pither (2A) and David Vallorani (1G, 1A) each recorded two points and remain tied for the team lead in points with seven each through four games.
