Cyclones Drop Weekend Opener in Manchester

Manchester, NH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (1-4-0-0) fell to the Manchester Monarchs, 7-3, on Friday night. Forwards Dominic Zombo, Jordan Sims and Shawn O'Donnell netted the goals for Cincinnati, who allowed four power play goals and a shorthanded marker in the contest

After Manchester took a 1-0 lead on a David Kolomatis power play goal 6:01 into the first, the Cyclones got on the board roughly two minutes later when a shot from forward Peter LeBlanc was kicked out by Monarch netminder Sam Brittain, however Zombo was following up the play and stuffed in the rebound to tie the game,1-1.

The Monarchs turned up the offensive pressure later on in the frame, receiving an even-strength marker from forward Quentin Shore, and back-to-back power play tallies from defenseman Damir Sharipzyanov and forward Joe Diamond to take a 4-1 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes, and chase Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser from the game.

In the second, Manchester's power play got back to work when defenseman Justin Agosta beat new Cyclones goaltender Mark Visentin to put the Monarchs up, 5-1, 2:27 into the period.

Cincinnati cut their deficit back to three goals late in the frame, when a cross-ice feed from forward Nick Huard found Sims in the left circle and he tapped it past Brittain to pull Cincinnati to within three, 5-2.

That score held up throughout the remainder of the second, and in the third Manchester continued to pile up the goals, getting tallies from defensemen Connor Hardowa, and Alexx Privitera shorthanded to send the Monarchs to a 7-2 lead.

Cincinnati tacked on one more to their tally around the midway mark of the final period when O'Donnell took a pass from LeBlanc and riffled a shot off the crossbar and in to pull Cincinnati to within four, 7-3.

That was all the offense the Cyclones were able to muster, as Brittain turned aside 24-of-27 Cyclones shots to preserve Manchester's 7-3 win. Houser and Visentin combined to stop 28 shots in the loss for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones and Monarchs hit the ice for the second of their three-game series on Saturday night. The face-off is scheduled for 6:00pm ET.
