Allen Americans News Release
Fort Wayne, Indiana - The Allen Americans and Fort Wayne Komets square off tonight in a rematch of last year's ECHL Western Conference Finals. The puck drops tonight at 8:00 Eastern Time from Fort Wayne.
The Americans are coming off a 3-2 loss in Tulsa on Tuesday night, in the first of four away from Allen Event Center. The Americans are 0-1 on the road, while Fort Wayne is 1-1 at Memorial Coliseum.
Fort Wayne is led by rookie forward Mike Cazzola, who has five points in four games for the Komets, (1 goal & 4 assists). Captain Jamie Schaafsma has two goals and two assists in four games.
Chad Costello leads the Americans in assists with five, and points with six. Costello was held off the score sheet in Tulsa on Tuesday night. Chris Crane is now tied with Greger Hanson for the team lead in goals with three, and tied for second on the team with five points.
The Americans special teams have been feast or famine with the penalty kill still perfect at 100 % 29 for 29, while the power play is near the bottom of the league 20th overall at 8.7 %.
"We have to be better on the power play," said Americans forward Chris Crane. "We have the talent on both units to be one of the best power play teams in the league. So far we haven't had the results, but signs that things are improving were evident in Tulsa on Tuesday night."
The Americans beat Fort Wayne in five games last May to advance on to their fourth straight finals appearance and second straight Kelly Cup Finals. This is only the second regular season meeting ever between the two clubs. The last time they met non-postseason, Allen defeated Fort Wayne 2-1 in a shootout when both were part of the Central Hockey League back in 2011.
The Americans will travel to Indianapolis after tonight's game to meet the Indy Fuel on Saturday night, before closing out the four-game road trip on Sunday afternoon in Kalamazoo.
Rick Pinkston, who has been out of the lineup for the last two weeks, is on the trip with the Americans and could be back in action as soon as tonight.
The Americans return home to play Alaska next Saturday and Sunday for two of only three home games in November. Tickets are on sale NOW at Allen Event Center Box Office or online at www.allenamericans.com . Call 972-912-1000 for more information .
