Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY- The Adirondack Thunder (3-0-1-1) scored a pair of power-play goals and also added a shorthanded goal to top the Elmira Jackals (2-3-0-0), 5-2, at First Arena Friday night.
The Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, taking advantage of their first power play. After sustaining pressure in the offensive zone, former Jackal Patch Alber took a shot from the point, which Greg Wolfe deflected past Andy Iles at 13:58 to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Jackals pulled even at 4:31, catching the Thunder on a change. Charlie Mosey corralled the puck in the Jackals defensive zone and fired a crisp pass to the offensive blueline, finding Sebastien Sylvestre behind the defense. Sylvestre deked and slid the puck between Thunder goalie Mason McDonald's pads for his first goal as a Jackal, tying the game at one. The Thunder went back ahead at 10:19, scoring their second power-play goal with Stepan Falkovsky hammering a one-timer from the right circle. A minute and a half later the Thunder doubled their lead with Phil Lane taking advantage of a Jackals turnover and scoring unassisted with a right-circle drive.
The Jackals got back within one in the high-scoring second period, cashing in on their first 5-on-3 of the season as Davis Vandane wired a shot from the high slot at 14:17 of the second. Daultan Leveille and Mike Radja assisted on Vandane's first goal as a Jackal. The Jackals lost the momentum they had generated late in the period, falling behind by two with one minute to play in the second as Lane scored his second of the night. On a shorthanded rush with Matt Bailey, Lane deposited the puck on a 3-on-1 to give the Thunder a 4-2 leading heading into the third, scoring their first shorthanded goal of the season.
The Thunder put the game away in the third, limiting the Jackals to just three shots and sealing the win with an empty-net goal by Alex Wall at 19:11.
The two teams complete their home-and-home series tomorrow night at the Glens Falls Civic Center, in the third game of the week between the clubs.
