Stingrays Get The Better Of The Ice Pilots 5-2
February 15, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays had four days off but showed no rust as Steve Pinizzotto got two goals and the Rays put up five on the Pensacola Ice Pilots defeating them 5-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
In the first period, the South Carolina Stingrays and the Pensacola Ice Pilots played an even first 10 minutes. But the second half of the period was controlled primarily by the Rays. That control came to a head when Trent Campbell intercepted a pass on the penalty kill and found Cail MacLean for a one-timer to take the lead. South Carolina now has 14 short handed goals, the most in the ECHL.
Four minutes into the second period Trent Campbell got his 10th goal of the year from Pinizzotto and Paul McIlveen to give the Rays a two goal lead. Less than two minutes later, it was Daniel Sullivan who got his 5th goal of the year to cut the lead in half. Travis Morin made it a two goal cushion getting his team leading 24th goal from Chris Chaput and MacLean at 11:06.
Pinizzotto got his 2nd goal of the game and his 11th goal of the season at 3:50 of the third period on the power play from Rory Rawlyk and Campbell. After Mathieu Roy got the second goal of the game for Pensacola, Pinizzotto struck again, his second of the game and his 12th of the year, from Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Campbell at 19:31.
The winning goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Mike Brodeur who stopped 37 of the 42 shots he faced. South Carolina went one for four on the power play while killing off five of six short handed situations.
The Rays are back in action next tomorrow night as they welcome in the Mississippi Sea Wolves for Military Appreciation night. Game time will be at 7:05 P.M
