Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (February 15, 2008) - The Trenton Devils found out why the Cincinnati Cyclones were ranked in the top five in both the power play and penalty kill tonight, when the Queen City squad scored five power play goals and froze the Devils 11 times on their own chances. The Devils dropped a tough one, 7-0 to the Cyclones.

Trenton out-shot the Cyclones 39-31 in the contest, but Cedrick Desjardins was up to the challenge. The netminder was perfect on the night, turning aside wave after wave of Devils chances-and earning his fifth shutout of the season.

Trenton had several chances, including a near-breakaway by Joe Rooney in the third period and three separate five-on-three advantages.

A penalty-ridden affair led to a season high number of power plays both for and against the Devils. Trenton was blanked by the strong defensive effort of Cincinnati's penalty kill unit, which held the Devils scoreless on eleven different tries.

Matt Syrocyznski started the scoring with two tallies in the first period. His first goal-and the game-winner-found the back of the net on a one-timer of a pinballing puck. Cory Urquhart at the top point launched the puck to Jason Deitsch at the bottom circle, who nailed a perfect feed to the game's eventual first-star.

Scott Perkins finished the scoring in the first with a power play goal, while Jason Deitsch opened the second period with a marker 46 seconds in. T.J. McElroy added to the score 6:25 into the middle frame on a power play blast from the bottom point.

Billy Irish-Baker and Deitsch would finish things off with goals in the third frame.

Syrocyznski, and Deitsch both tallied two in the contest; Deitsch, Urquhart and Scott Reynolds each had three-point games.

Jason Smith took the loss, stopping 32 of 39 shots.

The Trenton Devils welcome their last non-divisional opponent tomorrow night, when they take on the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:00pm at Sovereign Bank Arena. Tune into WTSR 91.3 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
