Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that they have received defensemen Andrei Plekhanov (plah-HAHN-ahv) and Brett Motherwell on assignment from Syracuse of the American Hockey League. In separate moves, the club released goaltender Andrew Gallant from emergency back-up status and signed goaltender Ervins Mustukovs (MOO-stuh-kahvs) in the same capacity. Additionally, defenseman Chris Busby has been placed on the 30-day injured reserve list.
Plekhanov begins his fourth stint with the Jackals, having appeared in five ECHL contests with one point, two penalty minutes and a+1 rating. He has suited up in 28 contests with Syracuse and has 14 points on three goals and 11 assists along with six penalty minutes. A native of Nizhnekamsk, Russia, Plekhanov was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round, 96th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Motherwell, a 21-year old rookie from St. Charles, IL, signed with Syracuse after electing to leave college after skating in one game this year with Boston College (Hockey East Association). In 27 games with the Crunch, Motherwell has one goal and seven assists for eight points and 18 penalty minutes.
In swapping out emergency back-up goaltenders, Gallant leaves Elmira having appeared in the third period of last Friday's 9-3 loss at Johnstown. He gave up four goals on 13 shots in twenty minutes of game action. Mustukovs, 23, joins Elmira after making 19 appearances with the Knoxville IceBears (Southern Professional Hockey League) in posting a 10-5-1 record with one shutout, a 2.94 goals against average (2nd) and .908 save percentage (4th).
Busby, a third year pro, was injured in the first period of Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Texas Wildcatters at First Arena. The 25-year old defender had appeared in every Jackals contest (47) this season with five goals and 18 assists for 23 points. He becomes the third Elmira defenseman to be placed on the 30-day injured reserve list this year. Earlier, teammates Jon Landry and Dan Boeser underwent season-ending knee surgeries from injuries sustained in the club's November 29th bus accident.

After serving his one-game suspension for being involved in an altercation after last Saturday's game in Reading had concluded, left wing Bruce Watson is expected to be back in the Elmira Jackals line-up tonight when the club hosts the South Division's Gwinnett Gladiators in a 7:35 p.m. face-off at First Arena.
