Blades lose three, get one from AHL

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President & General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that three players were have been recalled to the American Hockey League, and one player has been assigned to the club from the AHL.

The Everblades saw goaltender Justin Peters and defenseman Steve Ward re-called to the Albany River Rats, and forward Dan Collins re-called to the Rochester Americans. At the same time goaltender Kevin Nastiuk has been re-assigned to the Everblades from Albany.

Nastiuk returns to the Everblades for the second time this season. Earlier this season the 22-year-old started in two games with the Everblades, winning one and losing one in late December. The former 4th round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003 began the season with the River Rats where he has posted a 4-1-0 record, and a 2.31 goals against average in five games.

The assignment marks the return to the Everblades for Nastiuk, who suited up for Florida during his rookie season in 2005-06. The Edmonton, Alberta native split his rookie season between Lowell and the Everblades that season beginning the year with the Lock Monsters and posting a record of 1-7-3 with a 3.45 GAA and an .887 save percentage in 11 games before joining the Everblades.

Peters returns to the River Rats for the third time this season where he has posted a 3-0-0 record with a 3.16 goals against average and a .896 save percentage in four games. The former 2nd round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2004 played in 34 games with Albany last season, compiling a 10-18-1 record with a 3.26 GAA. This season with the Everblades the Blyth, Ontario native holds a 18-10-2 record in 31 games with an ECHL fifth best GAA of 2.57 and a .922 save percentage.

Ward makes his first trip to the AHL in his professional career after opening the 2007-08 season with 14 points (1g, 13a) in 45 games with the Everblades. Ward, who turned 22 this past Wednesday, made his professional debut with the Everblades on October 19 and scored his first pro goal on Dec. 30 at Pensacola.

Collins returns to the Americans where he began the 2007-08 season. The 21-year-old made his professional debut with Rochester on Oct. 5 and played his first 24 games there this season, notching eight points (3g, 5a). The former 3rd round draft pick by the Florida Panthers in 2005 heads back to the AHL after skating in 28 games with the Everblades and registering 18 points (4g, 14a).
