Catters Cruise Through Elmira 6-3, Winning Streak at 11
February 15, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
Elmira, NY-- David Schulz scored once and added two helpers as the ECHL-leading Texas Wildcatters exacted some revenge on the Elmira Jackals with a 6-3 win Thursday that extended their winning streak to an ECHL-best 11-games.
Frank Littlejohn gave the Jackals the early lead with a power play goal at 4:46 but Ross Carlson knotted the score 1-1 with his 17th of the season at 5:02. Credit assists to Schulz and Mike Grenzy.
The Catters would expand their lead to 3-1 with consecutive goals in the second period. First would be Schulz, finding the back of the net for the lone power play goal of the night for Texas just 0:27 into the frame. Danny Welch would expand the lead with a shorthanded goal assisted by Max Taylor and AJ Thelen at 5:46.
Igor Pohanka would bring the Jackals within a goal, beating Jeff Pietrasiak (24 saves) at 17:04 but John Adams would reclaim the two-goal advantage with his sixth goal of the season to make the score 4-2 before the second intermission.
John McNabb would score his first of two goals in the third period, slamming home a Schulz rebound to make the score 5-2 at 9:38. Elmira would make one more effort as Pierre-Luc Faubert would score at the twelve-minute mark to make it 5-3 but McNabb would seal the game for the Catters with an empty net goal after Joel Martin (32 saves) was pulled in the game's final minute.
The game marks a bit of redemption in the historic Texas season as Elmira is one of the few teams that have beaten the Wildcatters this year. A 4-1 defeat in regulation on November 17 is one of only four regulation losses and a 2-1 shootout decision the following night started the Wildcatters record 23-game streak without a regulation loss.
The Wildcatters have a busy weekend ahead of them, first travelling to Johnstown to face the Chiefs Friday night at 6:05 CT then heading to Reading to complete the road trip with a 6:05 match Saturday.
Join the Catters as they return home for a three-game series beginning Feb. 22 versus the Columbia Inferno. Pink in the Rink is coming Feb. 23...log on to wildcattershockey.com for more information!
