Stingrays Add Pair of Forwards

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that they have added forwards Mick Berge from Minnesota State-Mankato and Kip Brennan from the Hershey Bears.

"We are always looking for ways to improve our team, especially at this time of year," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "These players will definitely help us down the stretch and into the playoffs."

Berge was acquired after finishing his senior year with the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks. The 24 year old forward played 135 games for the Mavericks, finishing with 85 points, 42 goals and 43 assists. His 85 career points ranks 11th on MSU's career scoring list for its NCAA Division I era. MSU's team captain for 2008-09, Berge ranked second on the team in assists and shots on goal. He was also one of only five players to play in every single game this season.

Prior to turning playing for MSU, Berge played three seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. In three seasons with Lincoln, the Oklahoma City native played 169 games garnering 117 points on 35 goals and 82 assists. He also played eight games in the playoffs tallying three goals and three assists.

Kip Brennan played in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires and Sudbury Wolves from 1996-2001. He led the Wolves in penalty minutes for the 1999-2000 season with 228 regular season PIM and 67 playoff PIM. In 2001, he split time with the Lowell Lock Monsters, of the AHL, and the Sudbury Wolves, OHL.

The 2001-2002 season would give Kip his first taste of the NHL. He skated in 4 games for the LA Kings and picked up 22 PIM. For the remainder of the season he played for the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate for the Los Angeles Kings. He led the team in PIM with 269. 2002-03 and 2003-04, he was back and forth between the Kings and Monarchs. Kip again lead the Monarchs with 198 PIM for the 2002-03 season. He also played for the Atlanta Thrashers of the NHL for 5 games during the 2003-04 season.

2004-05, he played exclusively for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, leading the team in PIM with 267 during the regular season and 105 PIM in the playoffs. 2005-06, he played for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, NHL, and the Portland Pirates, AHL. Then for the 2006-07 season, Kip skated 1 game for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL, 11 games for the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the ECHL, and then finished the season with the Hershey Bears. He then signed with the New York Islanders, playing 3 games with the team, spending most of the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Brennan then signed with HIFK in Finland's SM-liiga, but on 16 December 2008, he left the team and returned back to Hershey Bears.

Sunday, in addition to be the Stingrays Low Country Relief Day, is also Salute to Heroes Day brought to you by Exclusively Bimmers. With both pregame hockey between the Charleston Police Department and Columbia Fire Department and postgame hockey between the Charleston Fire Department and New York Fire Department, the Stingrays are raising money for the Equipping our Heroes Foundation, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Carolina Children's Charity. Friday and Saturday's games begin at 7:05 p.m., and Sunday's game starts at 5 p.m. Hope to see you there.
