Salmon Kings Continue Final Regular Season Home Stand
March 20, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, welcome the Idaho Steelheads to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this week for the final home stand of the 2008-09 regular season.
The Salmon Kings and Steelheads will continue their four-game set tonight at 7:05 p.m. with the final two games being played on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday (1:05 p.m.).
Victoria currently sits in third place, 0.052 percentage points behind Idaho, in the ECHL's West Division. The top two teams in each division will have home ice advantage for the first round of the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
In addition to the tremendous action on the ice, the Salmon Kings will host their annual Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday. The team is also fully behind a fund raising effort for a local minor hockey player named Jack.
Jack is a 5-year-old member of a minor hockey team in the Greater Victoria area. A few weeks ago he was at a hockey practice enjoying life and playing with his teammates, and then a few short hours later he had been diagnosed and began receiving treatment for Leukemia. The Salmon Kings will welcome The Bottle Depot, who has offered their services to help Jack and his family.
The Bottle Depot will be on site on Saturday night with a 5-ton freightliner truck. The truck will be parked out front of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Saturday night as well as at the conclusion of the game for 30 minutes. They will accept all refundable beverage containers. The company's website (www.bottledepot.ca) lists all the containers that they will accept.
The total amount of money raised through this recycling initiative will be matched by the Bottle Depot. All proceeds will be placed in a trust fund to help aid Jack's parents with travel costs between Victoria and the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
Along with Sunday afternoon being the final home game of the regular season schedule, the Salmon Kings are also celebrating their annual Fan Appreciation Day. The team will be thanking their fans for another great season of support by giving away a plethora of prizes throughout the game.
Available for fans at the door will be limited edition collector autograph cards of Victoria Salmon Kings player.
Marty the Marmot will unveil a special second intermission on-ice performance. Fans will also have the chance to win Marty the Marmot's original game worn or "Marmot worn" jersey.
In addition, the Salmon Kings will have prize packs that will be given away to select lucky fans during the game. Prizes have been donated by such sponsors as Accent Inns, Popeye's Supplements, 100.3 The Q and Coca Cola Bottling Company.
Following the game, fans will be asked to join the Salmon Kings on the ice for the final Skate with the Salmon Kings of the season. Fans are invited to bring their own blades, or rent skates by donation at the arena.
All fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets ahead of time. For information on tickets for the game, please call the Select Your Tickets Box Office at (250) 220-7777, or visit www.selectyourickets.com.
