Stingrays Clinch Playoffs Behind Reimer's Second Straight Shutout

North Charleston, SC - It's been 138:54 since anyone has scored on James Reimer and the South Carolina Stingrays after they blanked the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-0 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

"[Reimer] was the best player on the ice tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I like the way our new guys stepped in tonight and feel that we are coming together for the playoffs."

The Rays struck first in this one as Travis Morin got his 21st goal of the season. At the 9:07 mark of the period, Morin grabbed a rebound from in front of the crease and fired a shot by a down and out Ryan Munce. The goal was assisted by Maxime Lacroix and made it a 1-0 game heading into the second period of play.

In the second period, the Sea Wolves began to put serious pressure on goalie James Reimer, but Reimer stood tall in the net stopping all 13 shots in the period. The only goal of the period belonged to the Rays, more specifically to rookie Mick Berge, playing in his first professional game after getting signed by the Stingrays out of college earlier today. The goal came as Josh Godfrey brought the puck in the zone and found Berge on the near side. Berge took a quick snap shot on Munce that rose up and hit him on the shoulder. After riding up and over Munce's shoulder, the puck slid into the corner of the net making it a 2-0 lead for the Rays.

The Rays strengthened up their defense in the third period with Reimer doing the rest. They would salt this one away on an empty net goal by Morin with less than a minute to play. The goal, Morin's second of the game and 22nd of the season, came at the 19:03 mark of the period and was assisted by Keith Johnson and Spencer Carbery. The goal made it a 3-0 game, the eventual final.

The winning goalie was Reimer who stopped all 29 shots that he faced en route to his second straight shutout. The losing goalie was Munce who stopped 32 of the 34 shots that he faced. Both the Rays and the Wolves went 0-3 on the power play.

The Stingrays continue this weekend on Saturday, and Sunday night against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Join us Saturday for Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night and Homeowner's Appreciation Night. With both pregame hockey between the Charleston Police Department and Columbia Fire Department and postgame hockey between the Charleston Fire Department and New York Fire Department, the Stingrays are raising money for the Equipping our Heroes Foundation, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Carolina Children's Charity.
