READING, Pa., (March 20, 2009) -- The Trenton Devils continued their mastery of the Reading Royals as they picked up a key victory on the road Friday night, 4-2.
Vince Rocco put the Royals on the board with his first professional goal three minutes into the game. Rocco fired a shot from the slot that deflected off the glove of Gerald Coleman and into the net.
The Devils came out firing in the second period, and were rewarded with three unanswered goals. Eric Castonguay continued his recent hot streak with a goal in his fifth straight game at 2:22, a laser from the top of the far circle.
Dave Leaderer put the Devils in front off a pass from Castonguay, as the defenseman put it home from the bottom of the far circle for his 12th of the season at 5:01.
The third goal came on the power play, as Trevor Kell deflected a Ryan Gunderson shot from the blue line at 8:51. The goal was Kell's 20th of the season, and Gunderson's assist tied a Trenton record for the most in a season, set in the 2006-07 season by Scott Bertoli.
The Royals were able to come back within a goal thanks to the power play, as Tyler Doig fired a one-timer from the far circle at 13:26.
In the third period, the Devils made sure not to let the Royals back in the game, as Dan Eves scored an insurance goal 2:45 into the period to ice the game for Trenton.
Kell and Castonguay each had a goal and an assist for Trenton, who defeated the Royals for the 10th time in 13 games this season. Coleman made 26 saves for the Devils in the victory.
The Devils return to Sovereign Bank Arena Saturday night to play the Cincinnati Cyclones, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Before the game, comedian Judah Friedlander will participate in the ceremonial puck drop. The actor appeared in the Oscar-nominated film "The Wrestler" wearing the T-Devils jersey. Friedlander will be available for autographs until the first intermission. In addition, the 1,000 children 12-and-under will receive a Scorch Piggy Bank, courtesy of NJEA.
