South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that forward Jeff Corey has been acquired from the Reading Royals in exchange for future considerations.
"I am really excited to be getting Jeff," said Stingrays Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I was really impressed with the way he played when I saw him in Hershey's camp this year. He will bring a lot of experience with him having played a full season in the AHL, and will give us three very solid lines on the ice."
Corey, 26, collected four goals (3g, 1a) and 10 penalty minutes in 12 games this season for Reading, after attending training camp for the Hershey Bears. The 6-foot, 200 pound forward spent last season in Denmark where he had 27 points (18g, 9a) and 63 penalty minutes in 36 games, tying him with the most goals scored on the team. Corey saw action with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, amassing 23 points (11g, 12a) in 65 games played.
Prior to turning pro, the Boothwyn, PA native spent four years with the University of Vermont, finishing amongst the top five goal scorers each year. In 135 games with the Catamounts, he piled up 99 points (48g, 51a). Corey also spent three seasons with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede, posting 87 points (41g, 46a) in 149 contests.
Corey will play his first game for the Stingrays on Wednesday when they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena.
