
Lerg Recalled, Thunder Assigned McDonald

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, announced the Oilers have assigned right wing Colin McDonald to the Thunder from Springfield and have recalled rookie center Bryan Lerg from the Thunder to Springfield.
McDonald will wear jersey number 18 and is expected to debut in the Thunder lineup on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when Stockton faces the Idaho Steelheads at Qwest Arena, starting at 6:10 p.m. (www.StocktonThunder.com).
McDonald, 24, was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round (51st overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has skated in 88 career games in the AHL with Springfield, scoring 27 points (14g-13a) while amassing 66 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound right winger has amassed four points (2g-2a) and 20 penalty minutes in 15 games this year.
The Hartford, Conn. native scored 12 goals and 23 points (12g-11a) in 73 games in his rookie campaign last year.
McDonald played all four years (2003-07) of his college career with Providence College (NCAA), skating in 223 career games for the Friars while scoring 104 points (57g-47a) and posting 186 penalty minutes. McDonald was a member of the Hockey East Conference all-rookie team as a 2003-04 freshman when he scored 16 points (10g-6a) in 37 games for Providence.
Lerg, 22, was originally assigned to the Thunder from Springfield on Oct. 20. Lerg's eight assists rank second on the Thunder while ranking third on the team with 10 points (2g-8a) in seven ECHL games this year. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward has scored one goal in three AHL games this year.
Lerg was signed by the Oilers as a free agent on Apr. 1, 2008. The Livonia, Mich. native previously played all four years (2004-08) of his college career with Michigan State University (NCAA), skating in 169 career games and scoring 128 points (68g-60a).
The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08.
