
Condors win consecutive games over weekend, three of four overall

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors won three of their four games on the week, including back-to-back victories in Fresno on Saturday and Stockton on Sunday. LW Mark Derlago led the offense with five points (2g-3a), recording at least one point in each game last week.
The Condors are 5-7-1 on the season, and tied for 4th place in the Pacific Division with the Las Vegas Wranglers, with 11 points on the season. The Fresno Falcons currently hold the division lead with 17 points.

The Condors snapped a four-game skid with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against the Las Vegas Wranglers on home ice. C Dave Bonk (left) put Bakersfield ahead with a power play tally in the first period, and the Condors out-shot Vegas 18-6 in the frame. After the Wranglers tied the game midway through the second, the Condors again struck on the man-advantage with a goal from F Matt Pope to reclaim the lead, 2-1. G Dave McKee made 17 saves in the scoreless third period, and stopped 34 of 35 shots overall, to keep the Condors lead intact.
Friday, Nov. 14
ONTARIO 3 vs. Condors 2
The Condors controlled the majority of the game in Ontario, but the Reign came from behind with two goals in the third to swipe the win from Bakersfield. After a scoreless first period, F Matt Pope (right) and F Matt Caruana both scored in the second stanza, putting the Condors up, 2-1, heading into the final frame. A pair of costly penalties by the Condors led to two power play goals for the Reign just 51 seconds apart, giving Ontario its first lead in the game and accounting for the 3-2 final.
Saturday, Nov. 15
Condors 2 vs. FRESNO 1
Continuing on their three-in-three weekend, the Condors rebounded with a 2-1 win against Fresno at Selland Arena. For the third consecutive game, the Condors got on the board first, when C Dave Bonk netted his third of the season 8:32 into the first period. LW Mark Derlago added to the lead at 12:09 in the second with a power play goal, and Bakersfield led 2-0 through two. G Ryan Nie (left), playing in his second game with Bakersfield, stopped all 15 shots he faced through the first two frames. Fresno got on the board in the third, but Nie made 10 more saves, and 25 overall, to secure the 2-1 win.
Sunday, Nov. 16
Condors 6 vs. STOCKTON 5
Stockton opened the scoring early in the first, but Bakersfield tied it 8:00 into the opening frame and never trailed after that. D Martin Frechette and F Matt Pope both notched power play goals in the first period, putting the Condors ahead, 2-1, after one. F Andrew Ianiero (right) extended the lead 19 seconds into the second period with his first of the year. After Stockton pulled back within one, LW Mark Derlago and C Dave Bonk lit the lamp just 22 seconds apart, giving the Condors a 5-2 lead. Stockton finished the period strong with a pair of late goals, making it a one-goal game, 5-4, entering the third. F Matt Caruana scored on the power play 1:32 into the final period, but Stockton responded again five minutes later with a goal of its own. Despite pressure from the Thunder, G Ryan Nie (who stopped 31 of 36 shots) and the Condors held on to the narrow lead, wrapping up the weekend with a wild 6-5 win.
Thomas gets the call to Iowa:
D Andrew Thomas was recalled by the Iowa Chops (AHL) today. Thomas attended training camp in Iowa, but had played in all 13 games this season with Bakersfield and was leading Condors blueliners, and tied for 3rd among all ECHL defensemen, with eight assists.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
The Condors are 2nd in the league in overall attendance at 42,968 and are 3rd in average attendance at 6,138.
The Condors penalty kill has shut down 40 of their opponents' last 44 power plays (90.9%) over the last six games. The Condors penalty kill is tied for 8th in the league at 83.3%.
The Condors power play scored four goals in Sunday's win in Stockton, and is ranked 9th in the ECHL at 19%.
Thirteen different Condors recorded a point in Sunday's win.
The Condors and Thunder have combined for 33 total goals in three head-to-head games this season. A total of 11 goals have been scored in each of the three match-ups.
LW Mark Derlago (right) is on a four-game points streak (2g-3a) and two-game goal-scoring streak (2g).
C Dave Bonk is on a three-game points streak (2g-2a) and two-game goal-scoring streak (2g).
F Matt Pope has scored five goals in the last five games, and is tied with F Matt Caruana for the team lead with eight on the year. They are also tied for 3rd among the ECHL's top rookie goal-scorers.
G Ryan Nie logged his 5,000th career minute during Sunday's game against Stockton. He is currently on a two-game winning streak.
RW Liam Huculak was activated from the IR on Saturday and D Martin Frechette was activated on Sunday. D Chris Kaufman was placed on the IR on Saturday, and will be eligible to be activated from the 7-IR on Saturday, Nov. 22. D Tyler Scott was placed on the 3-IR on Sunday, and will be eligible to be activated on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The Condors continue their five-game road trip with a pair of contests against the RoadRunners in Phoenix on Wednesday and Friday. Both games will start at 6:05 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks and Bakersfieldcondors.com. Be sure to tune in 15 minutes before the opening draw for Condors Countdown!
The Condors return to the Mercy & Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena on Saturday, Nov. 22 to host the RoadRunners. That night, the Oakland Raiderettes come to town, sponsored by ABC23, 98.5 The Fox and Cal Water. They will perform during the intermissions, sign autographs and pose for pictures in the Condors Photo Booth throughout the night. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
In addition to being broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks, and Bakersfieldcondors.com, Saturday's home game will also be televised live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21, and will be available On Demand on Ch. 300 starting Sunday.
