CHARLOTTE, NC - Despite a 33-save effort from Jeremy Duchesne and a pair of goals from Alex Parent, the Mississippi Sea Wolves fell 3-2 in overtime to the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday night.
Alexandre Parent's fourth goal of the season gave the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead when he redirected Mike Berry's centering pass through the legs of Charlotte goaltender Jeff Jakaitis at 18:13 of the first period.
Charlotte carried a two-man advantage over into the second period and capitalized on it early when Julien Brouillette's blast from the right point beat Mississippi's Jeremy Duchesne over the catching glove. Joe Zappala gave Charlotte a 2-1 lead hammering home a loose puck at the right post with eight seconds remaining in the second frame.
Mississippi tied the game late in the third period when Parent battled in front of the net to hammer in the rebound of Bill LeClerc's shot for his second goal of the night at 17:13 of the third period.
Mike Bayrack potted the winner when he drove to the net and fired a wrist shot through the pads of Duchesne at 3:50 of overtime.
Jeremy Duchesne made 33 saves to earn an OT, and the Sea Wolves were 0-for-5 on the power play.
