Colorado Eagles News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles out-shot the Bakersfield Condors, 53-24, but fell, 4-1, as the Condors claimed their first win in six chances against the Eagles this season. Brian Stewart's 52 saves were bolstered by a pair of odd-man rush goals from his forwards to help propel Bakersfield to just its 9th home victory of the season.

The Condors struck just 14 seconds into the game -- three seconds shy of the fastest goal allowed in Eagles team history -- when Jacob Legace was the beneficiary of a miscommunication among Colorado's defenders.

Adam Brown corralled a dump-in and left the puck behind his net for one his defensemen to pick up. Neither, however, retrieved the puck, allowing Francis Verreault to swoop in and grab it before finding Legace in the low slot. Legace then put home his own rebound from the doorstep to stake the home team to an early lead.

Colorado had a chance to get that goal back, but their top-ranked power play failed to convert on a pair of early man advantage chances. The Eagles, in fact, out-played the Condors handily in the first frame. In addition to out-shooting them 17-7, they carried the play, but couldn't beat Stewart. Collin Bowman actually got a puck past Stewart from the center ice red line following a faceoff in the neutral zone, but the tally was waived off.

The Condors doubled their lead at 8:40 of the second period when Scott Freeman capped off a 2-on-1 rush; the shot was Bakersfield's 12th, while the Eagles had already sent 25 on net. And six minutes later the Condors made it 3-0 with another 2-on-1 when Nicholas Tremblay took a pass from Freeman and beat Adam Brown.

Less than a minute later Colorado finally found the back of the net when Dylan Hood took a Joey Sides pass in the right circle and one-timed a shot past Stewart. But the Condors countered a minute and a half later when Evan Trupp put home a back-door rebound on a power play, giving the home team a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The Eagles once again out-shot the Condors in the third period, 16-3, but neither team scored in the final frame. The teams will close out their season series Saturday night.
