Ontario Reign News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (35-11-3-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, fell 2-1 to the Stockton Thunder (25-20-5-4) in overtime before a crowd of 5,145 at Stockton Arena on Friday.
The first period looked good for Ontario as they outshot Stockton 15-6. However, the Reign couldn't beat goaltender Oliver Roy who was playing his first game after returning from the AHL.
Brodie Sheahan gave the Reign a 1-0 lead at 11:07 of the second period. Matt Clune and Mario Lamoureux worked a faceoff win in the Stockton zone to Sheahan who sent the puck into the net for his 8th goal of the season.
Reign Goaltender Dustin Carlson played a strong game, but Brandon Davidson tied things up 1-1 with a shot from the top of the right circle with 6:23 left in regulation.
The Reign went to overtime for the fourth time in the team's last six games. CJ Stretch was sent to the penalty box for goalkeeper interference at 2:52 and Davidson struck again with the game winner at 3:03.
Carlson took the loss with 18 saves on 20 shots while Roy stopped 29 of 30 for the win.
